Hello Falkland Families,

Pertinent information for 2024-2025 school year – Staff have preliminarily placed students in classes for the 2024-2025 school year. Thank you parents for your input which was due June 3rd. The first day of school for students in Grade 1 – 8 is Wednesday, September 4th with dismissal at 11:11am. Buses will run as usual, just three hours early. If you have a student joining us for Kindergarten CLICK HERE for the gradual entry schedule. CLICK HERE to access the SD83 2024-2025 school calendar. You will notice some additional dates for next year in our upcoming event below. Please update this information in your personal calendars. We will most likely be returning to last years classes on the first day or two of school to accommodate any new registrations that may impact our configuration. More information will be sent at the start of September.

National Indigenous Day – Today, Friday, June 21st we honoured National Indigenous Peoples Day. The purpose of the day is to highlight Indigenous culture. This year our focus was on expanding knowledge of the Seven Sacred Teachings. Our Indigenous Support Worker, Wes Sandy and classroom teachers have been incorporating these teachings in classes through out the school year. Today, we expanded their knowledge to include local information. Eventually you will see the students’ projects displayed on our fence outside. We also participated in a variety of Indigenous games. Bannock and Chili was offered at lunch time for our students.

Grade 7/8 Field Trip – On Monday, June 24th out Grade 7 and 8’s are off to Kamloops to the Apex Adventure Park.

Fun Day Update – We have two life guards secured for Tuesday, June 25th for our Fun Day at Falkland BC Retreat Centre. Students still learning to swim should bring a lifejacket. This can be attached to their backpack on the bus. A reminder that snacks and lunch will be provided. Parents are welcome along with younger, non-school age siblings. PAC has paid for this events for Falkland School students. Cost for parents and younger non-school aged siblings will be $5.00 each. Please read information provided accompanying the permission form. Please remember a water bottle, sunscreen, hat and towel. Wear your bathing suit under your clothing and dress for the weather.

Grade 8 Orientation at PVSS – On Wednesday, June 26th Grade 8’s will get a taste of Grade 9 at PVSS. They will go on the morning bus leaving Falkland School at 8:00 am. It is important that they are on time. Mrs. Cull will be taking them for lunch and we will be returning by 12:30pm.

Grade 8 Grad – We have ten Grade 7 students helping along with seven Grade 7 parents. If you do not receive a confirmation from Mrs. Cull about helping at the Grade 8 Grad, we look forward to meeting you at the Falkland BC Retreat Center just after 7:30 pm on Wednesday, June 26th. Check your emails for a reminder about the rules for the Grade 7/8 sleepover so it is a success for everyone. We look forward to seeing Grade 8 students and their confirmed guests at 5:00pm in the school gym.

Last Day Whole School Assembly – On Thursday, June 27th you are invited to attend our end of year assembly starting at 8:40am. Please arrive in advance to find seating. We have students to celebrate, several staff to say goodbye to and several parents to thank.

Lost and Found – Our lost and found items will be on display on Wednesday and Thursday for students and parents to look through. Any unclaimed articles will be donated to a local thrift store at the end of Thursday.

Communicating Student Learning – Written Summary of Learning will be available online for parents on Thursday, June 27th. Please contact the office if you would like a paper copy.

Canada Day – The Falkland & District Community Association is organizing a Canada Day celebration at the rodeo grounds on Monday, July 1st. There will be food, music, kids fun, a show n’ shine and numerous vendors. The fun begins at 10:00 am and goes until 3:00pm. While this is not a School District 83 sponsored event, this should be a good time for our Falkland School Families.
