Hello Falkland Families,

Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful Winter Break and are excited for 2024!

Winter Rec Update (Grade 4 – 8 students) – Our first Winter Rec session on Friday, Jan 12^th has been postponed due to extreme temperatures. We are working hard with Silver Star to reschedule these lessons and an update will be sent out as soon as we have one.

Hot Lunch – Hot lunch order forms are being sent home with Grade 4 -8 students today for this Friday as Winter Rec is not happening. These forms MUST be brought back to school tomorrow morning, Thursday, Jan 11^th. No orders will be accepted past noon on Thursday.  

Explorations (Div. 1 and Div. 2 students) – Grade 6 – 8 students are starting their second Exploration sessions this afternoon. Over the next 9 weeks students will each participate in Visual Arts, Photography & Dance. This is a change from the schedule that was provided earlier in the school year.

Dress for the weather – Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather. Send him or her with the necessary outdoor gear to protect them from the cold and wet. We go outside each recess and lunch (unless the temperature is colder than -14 or rain is too heavy) and sometimes learn outside during the instructional time. Spare clothing is helpful for children who love to explore the wet, mucky puddles and/or enjoy sledding on our hill. This helps to keep outside time fun and ensure learning time is not interrupted.

Family Numeracy Games Night – Wednesday, Jan 24^th we will be hosting our Falkland School Family Numeracy Games Night! This is a family event for you and your school aged children. Dinner will be served from 4:45 pm – 5:15 pm, Numeracy Games Session will be from 5:15 – 6:30 pm. Learning Updates – Please contact the office if you need a hard copy of your child’s learning update from December.

Basketball – We are looking for help coaching basketball. Volunteer requirements must be completed. Please contact Karlee at the office for the link to the police information check.

PAC Meeting – Our next PAC Meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan 16^th at 2:30pm. Child minding is available for those attending.

Lockdown Drill – All students and staff will be participating in a lockdown drill on Wednesday, Jan 17^th. A lockdown is used to protect school occupants from a dangerous person within the school. Mrs. Cull will announce over the PA system the steps that staff and students are to follow in the event we ever have a live lockdown. Just like other drills for safety, students will be reminded through out this exercise that this is just a practice and to not be alarmed.

Lice – While we have received no reports of head lice, reviewing the importance of regular checking at home after a break from school is encouraged. Please CLICK HERE to view information on lice prevention and management.
