Upcoming Events at Falkland School

Posted on 2023-02-02 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

Hello Falkland Families,

This information was emailed home on Thursday, February 2nd.

Winter weather has returned. Please make sure you are sending students in appropriate outerwear for outside times. Snowpants, jacket, water resistant gloves, toque, etc.

Please join us on Thursday, Feb. 16th for our Valentines FAMILY Dance from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Please CLICK HERE for more information. This is a family friendly event. No unsupervised children please. PAC is asking for donated items for the raffle basket. These items are due by Friday, Feb. 10th. There will be a bake sale on the evening of the dance, please have items delivered to the school on Thursday, Feb. 16th.

Valentine’s Day Candygram forms have been sent home. Candygram messages and payments are due by Friday, Feb. 10th to PAC. These Candy Grams will be handed out to students on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at the end of the school day.

Unplug and Play Family Literacy week was last week. Please CLICK HERE to view photos from our Outdoor Scavenger Hunt and CLICK HERE for photos from our Numeracy Night.  Unplug and Play Passports are due back to school by Friday, Feb. 3rd. Completed forms will be sent to the district and entered in a draw to win a prize.

The Annual SD83 Orange Shirt Day Contest is underway. Entries are due Thursday, Feb. 16th. Please CLICK HERE for more information.

Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Falkland School during the week of February 27th  – March 3rd. Please CLICK HERE for more information.

This Monday, Feb. 6th is our final Winter Rec day for students in Div. 1, 2 & 3. Just a reminder to parents of students participating in Winter Rec:

  • Our bus will leave promptly at 8:15am each Winter Rec day. Our arrival time is set for 9:30am. Students will go through rentals when they arrive and get dressed for their lesson which starts at 10:00am. We will be discouraging students from entering the school to ensure nothing gets left behind.
  • If you do not require rentals please bring your own equipment to school by 8:00 am (on all three Winter Rec days) so they may be loaded into our transport vehicle. (Don’t forget your helmet). Ensure equipment is distinguishable.
  • Be sure your child has appropriate clothing including, water resistant gloves or mittens, warm winter jacket, snow pants, snow boots, toque, helmet, goggles or sunglasses, etc.
  • Please advise the office well in advance if your child will not be at school on Winter Rec days, Mondays, Jan. 16th, Jan. 23rd, and Feb. 6th. Unfortunately Silver Star does not give refunds for lessons and rentals. Ensure you complete your usual before school health check with your child.  Parents will be called to pick up children who get sick at the mountain.
  • There is limited room on the bus there and back so if you have selected as a parent to attend Silver Star and drive your own child, please stick to that plan and/or advise the office well in advance if your plan changes.
  • Lessons runs from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Students will be asked to return their rentals and eat lunch in the remaining time available. The bus will leave at 1:00pm promptly. Students need permission from their teacher to leave the group. You can choose to send money but we can not guarantee there will be enough time for students to purchase lunch and have time to eat it before boarding the bus at 1pm. This may seem like a long time but is needed for getting undressed, returning rentals, and eating own food brought from home. No food allowed to be eaten on the bus. Water only please. Please ensure your child brings a hardy, nutritious lunch and a water bottle.
  • Backpacks are left in the common room/lunch room.  Please do not leave valuables in the backpacks.  Talk with your child about a plan for safe keeping of money and personal devices if they are brought.
  • Students are expected to stay with the group and/or let their teacher know where they are going.  Please communicate with your child’s teacher if you plan on taking your child home early or staying longer at the mountain.
