Stage 2 – Return to School Plan for Falkland School

Posted on 2020-09-01 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

Please check your emails for news about our current enrollment and a link to a survey to advise us of your plans for September start up. There are 5 options to choose from in the survey.

You can see our Stage 2 – Return to School Plan here. Extensive planning has gone into making our school safe in this context, and in-class instruction is by far the richest learning environment for most students to develop their academic and social skills.

We recognize that while most parents agree that attending their neighbourhood school in person is the best option, some may still be nervous about sending their students to us on opening day. The Ministry of Education has temporarily softened our standard enrollment process to support families who wish to delay their start by a number of weeks but still retain their child’s seat in class. More details about this option can be found in the survey.

A few parents have also indicated that they would like to register their students in an online program. While the School District is reopening a Kindergarten through grade eight online program, note that once you have registered with the Education Online Program (EOP) or with another education provider, your child’s return to our school will be dependent on space available at our school, and may be delayed until the following school year as a result. As our staffing model is dependent on student registration numbers, students departing a school for other options may also cause the number of available seats in our school to be reduced.

Again, students are encouraged to attend their local school, as we believe that is the best option for the vast majority of students. We hope that you will agree and we look forward to seeing you in person on Thursday, September 10th.

Once our survey results are complete, a more specific plan with information about our classroom configurations, student placement, learning groups/cohorts, designated play areas, designated entrances and exits, etc. will be developed and emailed to you no later than Tuesday, September 8th.
