Drinking Water at Falkland School

Posted on 2020-01-10 08:00:00 +0000 UTC
Please find information from the district about the recent water testing done in schools in SD83.
The School District No. 83 Operations Department is responding to the new Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality set by Health Canada. The previous standards of 0.010 mg/L (10 parts per billion) for total lead in drinking water measured at the tap have been adjusted down to a maximum acceptable concentration of 0.005 mg/L (5 parts per billion). Staff is at the Mitigation Strategies stage after reviewing test results and is now beginning interim measures as recommended by the Ministry and our Canadian Government, such as morning flushing protocols and running water for 60 seconds before using impacted fountains and faucets. This response will be followed by longer-term solutions, which may include adding filters, updating taps and fountains, and installing designated water bottle filling stations in the small number of locations with test results falling between the previous and current standards.
At Falkland School we have 4 locations where signs have been posted to ensure water is run for 1 minute prior to drinking.
